Low Maintenance Plants
You can create a beautiful garden with low
maintenance plants. If you don't have much time to spend
working on your garden this is a good option.
Trees
Well grown trees need very little maintenance.
Birch, Hawthorn, Rowan and Mountain Ash are usually trouble
free and very easy to look after. They can create a nice
focal point as well as some shelter.
Shrubs
Evergreen shrubs provide year round colouration
for your garden. They will stop it looking bare in winter
and are easy to maintain.
Climbers
Climbers can be hassle free but make sure
you purchase one that won't outgrow it's surroundings or
you will be constantly cutting it back. Self clinging climbers
are the easiest to care for because you don't have to tie
and try to train them to cling to walls and fences. Self
climbers include ivies, hydrangea, Virginia creeper and
Boston Ivy.
Roses
The newer varieties of rose are easy to grow.
Ground cover roses need no pruning at all and are disease
resistant. Patio roses and also quite easy to look after
only needing clipping in the spring.
Perennials to look out for are those that
don't need dead heading. Grasses and bamboo's are very low
maintenance. All flowering perennials will have to be chopped
back at some stage including hardy geraniums, they need
little care but do need a good chop down once a year.
