Growing Fuchsias

Growing Fuchsias can be difficult especially when grown from cuttings. They are however among the most popular bedding plants. There are hundreds of different Fuchsias available in a wonderful range of colours.

Some trail while others make superb bushes. There are also tree shaped standards trained on a single tall stem.

They dislike hot scorching sun and are happiest in slightly shaded spots. Morning sun is fine but the hot afternoon sun can cause problems.

Bedding Fuchsias are tender and need protection from winter weather, but over-wintering them is quite easy and well worth the effort.

Make sure you bring them indoors before the winter frost. They need a resting period over winter so keep them in a cool spot and remove the leaves as they die off. Water very infrequently just to stop them getting bone dry.

In spring encourage them into active growth by first removing them from their pots and repotting them in fresh compost.
