Flower Garden With Brick Borders

A flower garden with brick borders is very easy to create and looks very effective. The border will put a definite line between your flower beds and your grass or patio and make your garden look neat and define the areas.

To instal Brick Edging

First of all clear the area where you want to lay your brick border. Clear away any weeds, plants, rocks and rubble.

Steak out the border with wooden pegs so you have a clear vision of where it will go. If you have lawn on one side of the border cut the edge of the lawn using a lawn edger to give a clean straight line.

Mark the width of your bricks on the soil and cut out a trench to lay a base for the bricks to sit on.

Lay landscaping fabric at the bottom of the trench and up the sides if the walls so no weeds can grow through.

Fill in the trench with a base of gravel. Level the gravel off right along the trench and make sure it is en even depth.

Now you are ready to entail the bricks. I always think it's best to start from the middle of the border and work out. Place your first brick and push it down firmly so it doesn't rock from side to side.

Move in one direction adding more bricks and pushing them firmly into place. Once you have finished one side start on the other, starting again from the middle.

When the bricks are laid go back along the line adding gravel to the trenches either side of the bricks and in-between bricks where needed.
